Beleaguered Scandinavian carrier SAS yesterday reported a widening net loss for the second quarter of 1.04 billion kronor (€101 million) and said it would cut 1,000 to 1,500 jobs.
In the same quarter a year ago, SAS posted a net loss of 422 million kronor.
The company said it would also slash pay and pensions for flight deck and cabin crew by 10 to 20 per cent, as part of a new restructuring programme aimed at securing the company's survival.
The airline has been plagued by losses in recent years, weakened by technical problems in 2007 which led to the grounding of its short-haul Dash-Q400 planes, followed by plummeting demand since last year due to the global economic downturn and a deadly crash in Madrid.
