Last Friday, Bay Street celebrated the feast of Santa Marija with a number of activities spread over the week leading up to the feast of the Assumption on August 15. The complex was decked out in festoons and other street decorations provided by the Sacro Cuor parish of Sliema together with traditional food and sweet stalls. On Friday, British seaman Allan Shaw, a member of Operation Pedestal - which brought in much needed food supplies, fuel and spare parts to the island at its greatest hour of need - accompanied by Acting British High Commissioner Janet Hanock signed a commemorative plaque to honour the servicemen who formed part of the convoy in 1942.
