John Camilleri's extra-time goal handed the BOV GFA Cup to Sannat Lions who edged out Kerċem Ajax 2-1 in the final.

The two teams were looking to make up for a disappointing league campaign by winning the cup competition, now in its 37th edition, but in the end Sannat's technical superiority prevailed.

Kerċem opened the scoring on 27 minutes. A shot by Chidi Achokwu was partially saved by Paul Galea, the ball rolled into the path of Milos Stojanovic who fired home from the edge of the box.

Sannat looked stunned and only managed to rally after the break. They created a string of oppor-tunities through Camilleri, Sabri Rais and Nikolai Filipov but had to wait until 12 minutes from time to level the score. Frank Debono pounced on a loose ball from a corner to surprise Kerċem keeper Courtney Mercieca.

The match could have gone either way in the remaining minutes as both Sannat and Kerċem had good openings but the score was unchanged and extra-time was played.

Stojanovic shot high from close in on 99 minutes and the Ajax were punished for that missed chance as three minutes later Filipov released Camilleri who scored with a fine finish that gave Mercieca no chance.

Sannat were now in the driving seat and Kerċem also ended the match on a bad note as substitute Alvin Grech was sent off in stoppage time for a foul on Rais.

After the match Jack Theuma, BOV general manager Gozo, GFA general secretary Joe Bajada and GFA treasurer George Cini presented the trophies to Sannat players and officials. This was Sannat's ninth success in the GFA Cup.
