Developer Sandro Chetcuti will retain his seat as a member on the government’s Building Regulation Board despite being given a suspended jail sentence for having assaulted and slightly injured Vince Farrugia, former Director-General of the GRTU..

“Sandro Chetcuti’s case does not impact his work at the Building Regulation Board. Meanwhile, he will remain member of the board. The case could also be subject of an appeal,” an Infrastructure Ministry  spokeswoman said.

Mr Chetcuti himself said he did not see why the court decision should stop him from serving on the board.

He was originally accused of attempted murder, but the most serious charge was then downgraded to attempting to cause serious injury.
