If it's summer, it's time for the San Michel series of Fun Runs.

Organised each year by the Malta Marathon Organising Committee, these runs fulfil a number of functions in the local running scene. They have been responsible for introducing many beginners to the sport, since they are short enough, at approximately three miles, that even those with very little running experience can handle them.

They are also "low-key", with an extremely casual show-up-and-run philosophy that does away with applying in writing weeks in advance and paying lots of money. The cost of racing is only 25 cents.

Water is provided by San Michel, a long-time sponsor of the Malta Marathon. And a Lm25 voucher for running shoes sponsored by Urban Jungle will be raffled among the finishers.

The first run takes place today in Siggiewi Square at 7.30 p.m.
