San Lawernz parish in Gozo has completed the restoration of the organ and paintings by Guzeppe Cali in the parish church in the second phase of an extensive programme partly funded by the EU.

This is the first time that the EU is funding a Church restoration project in Malta.

The funds were provided under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Operative Programme 1. The co-financing rate from the European Union Fund is 85% on the whole cost of the project, which is estimated to reach  €442,515. The locality's local council is also involved.

The new phase of the project will be inaugurated on December 14 with a concert by the Levita Laurentius Choir under the direction of Joe Formosa with the participation of Pamela Bezzina. Other musical pieces will be presented by Noel Gallo, who was the restorer of this organ, Robert Grech and Michael Farley .

Pierre Bugeja, the restorer of the paintings and Mr Gallo will explain their work on the paintings and the organ respectively.

The first phase of the project, concluded in July, focused on the restoration of the church facade, the bell towers, the bells, the parvis and the lightning preventing system.
