Samsung Electronics Italy said today that it will be launching a programme for its technicians to visit the homes of Maltese customers to resolve an issue identified in certain now-discontinued RS21 and RS23 range fridge freezers, manufactured between March 2005 and June 2006.

"Samsung Electronics has decided to take this action after concluding that in a minority of cases the models’ defrost system may require repair to put right a defect in its assembly. In very rare cases, there is the potential for internal sparking to occur and, in consequence, damage to the appliance," the company said.

It said it would provide a free inhome inspection and repair programme of all affected fridge freezers. As a precautionary measure, Samsung will also include unaffected fridge freezers with a similar defrost system as a part of the programme for consumers’ safety and convenience.

Users of Samsung fridge freezers can visit www.samsung.com/it/homevisitMalta to see if their appliance is part of this program. They can also contact Sound Machine Ltd. on helpline at 21806661.

The free home-visit and repair program will be available from November 9.
