Kevin Sammut’s hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sports has been postponed to February 11.

Mr Sammut is appealing his lifetime ban from football after he was found guilty of helping to fix Norway’s 4-0 victory against Malta in a Euro 2008 qualifier played in June 2007.

The former Valletta midfielder was initially suspended for 10 years but the UEFA Appeals Body increased his ban to life.

He was the the only Maltese player to be sanctioned by UEFA in connection with the scandal, which surfaced in 2011 and cast a huge shadow over Maltese football.

Today's hearing today was postponed because UEFA’s star witness Marijo Cvrtak, the convicted member of a Croatian gambling ring who claimed to have rigged the Norway-Malta qualifier, could not attend.

Mr Cvrtak offered to testify via Skype but after CAS consulted Mr Sammut’s defence lawyers Michael and Lucio Sciriha, all parties agreed to meet on February 11 when all witnesses, including those summoned by Mr Sammut’s lawyers, would testify.
