Ron Sammut recently represented Malta in the sixth Mediterranean Championship, which was held in Antalya, Turkey.

Forty players competed including seven Grandmasters, 10 International Masters and six Fide Masters.

Greek Ioannis Georgiadis clinched top spot with 6.5 points.

He was followed by Anthony Wirig, of France, and Turkey's Michail Gurevich. Sammut managed one win and three draws but lost five of his games.

Meanwhile, the Malta Open is currently underway at the Chess federation premises in Sliema. Duncan Vella and Colin Pace are leading the table with four points out of four .
