The Saluting Battery at the Upper Barrakka is being temporarily dismantled because of works on the site.

The antique Noon Gun was fired from the battery for the last time today. It is now being temporarily transferred to the upper tier of the Barrakka.

The other cannons are also being removed to make way for urgent infrastructural works. The area will be excavated for waterproofing to stop storm water from flooding the underlying historic Lascaris War Rooms located in Lascaris Ditch.

Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna said the saluting guns will be returned to their place when all work is completed in April.

The works are being sponsored by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority through its Environmental Initiatives Fund. The work is being carried out by workers of the Resources Ministry.
