Inmates and staff at Corradino prisons had to seek medical attention after an outbreak of salmonella at the correctional facility’s kitchen last week, the Times of Malta is informed.

Sources said an inspection by the health authorities confirmed salmonella was detected in some food items prepared at the prisons kitchen.

Action was then taken to control the situation. When contacted, prisons CEO Simon Buttigieg said salmonella “seems to be the cause of bouts of food poisoning affecting a number of inmates” last week.
