A number of Salina residents have signed a petition complaining about a lack of police enforcement following “numerous calls” about noise that they claim emanates from the Salini Resort.

Resident Tiziana Sadocco told this paper that since April 2016, residents have been disturbed by noise coming from the Salini Resort’s pool area, as well as by noisy students inside the hotel.

Ms Sadocco said residents resorted to calling the police “every day” to complain about the noise, but no action was taken.

She said students screamed and shouted in the pool and parking areas from “7am till late”.

In their petition, residents say complaints about the noise made directly to the hotel had also gone unheeded.

They found the noise very “intrusive”, as it was disrupting their sleep.

Ms Sadocco also provided a number of videos taken by residents. In one, taken at 10.30pm, loud music can be heard blaring from the pool area.

In other videos, voices can be heard floating over from the hotel’s common areas.

Contacted yesterday, Philippe Lonfat, the director of the Salini Resort, was quick to point out that it was a licensed venue and all music was switched off at 11pm, as required by law.

He said language students staying at the hotel were closely monitored and hardly created any issues. On Thursday, he said, the hotel held a function with 250 people without a single problem or complaint arising.

He said many a time, the hotel’s clients complained about noise coming from the residential zone.

Mr Lonfat said it was impossible to stop people from talking, and when one went to a public area, there was always the possibility of encountering some chatter.
