In a match to determine which team would end as wooden spoonists, San Ġiljan Firetech overcame the adversity that befell them through the suspension of three players and the docking of two points following last Saturday’s mayhem.

They put up a very good show to beat Sirens Ritter Sport who thus finished their league season at the bottom of the table.

A high-scoring first session, ended all square after the Saints neutralised a 0-3 initial deficit to twice go in front before the northerners levelled matters.

The second was almost as productive in terms of goals with San Ġiljan ending in front on 10-9.

More goals in the next quarter from Marton Toth (two), the perky Edward Aquilina and Heikko Nossek brought the Saints’ tally to 14, with Clint Mercieca, twice, and James Spiteri Staines replying for Sirens.

San Ġiljan held their own to win the last session 3-2 and end up clear winners.
