St Andrew's 2
Żebbuġ Rangers 0

St Andrew's gained three vital points over Żebbuġ Rangers to move two points clear over nearest rivals Gżira United at the top of the Division Two standings.

St Andrew's were the better team during the first period and they opened the score after 16 minutes when Nicky Vella Petroni fired the ball home from an Anatole Debono free-kick.

On 23 minutes a shot by Michael Calleja finished just wide and then the Żebbuġ goalkeeper brought off fine saves to deny Michael Grima.

After the break Rangers played the better football but it was the Saints who created the first opportunity with Calleja shooting just wide from an angled position.

At the other end, Rangers twice went close through Marlon Vella and on another occasion George Saliba shot just wide from close range.

The Saints' response produced a shot by Neil Chetcuti which was saved by Pace.

On 62 minutes, St Andrew's were reduced to ten men when Michael Calleja was dismissed after a clash with Sandro Calleja.

Żebbuġ now increased the pressure and again were close through Marlon Vella.

In time added on Pace kept Żebbuġ in the match when keeping out efforts from Michael Grima and Patrick Briscoe White.

However, St Andrew's made the points secure when Grima hit home after a swift break.

Rabat Ajax 0
Birżebbuġa SP 3

This was a fine performance by Kenneth Costantino's Birżebbuġa St Peter's as they obtained a comfortable win over struggling Rabat Ajax, the latter once again disappointing their supporters.

The first half was a balanced affair with Birżebbuġa going close after three minutes with a Robert Adami free-kick that finished just wide while at the other end Gabriel Mansueto denied Rabat with a fine save on a close-range effort from Adam Smeir.

On the half-hour Rabat wasted a clear scoring opportunity through Alan Zahra and they paid dearly for that miss as five minutes later Birżebbuġa opened the score, Denis Baldacchino heading in from an Adami free-kick.

After the change of ends the Saints were the better team and it was no surprise when on 53 minutes Ronnie Celeste lobbed the ball home after he was set up by Elton Bugeja.

Rabat responded through a dangerous free-kick from Smeir while Borg did well to keep out Bugeja's effort.

Three minutes later, Adrian Mifsud should have pulled a goal back for Rabat but it was Birżebbuġa who sealed the points when Noel Tabone's low shot rolled into the net for a final 3-0 victory.
