Saint James Hospital in Sliema has been sold to American investors, informed sources said.

The deal was negotiated by hospital owner Josie Muscat and also involves the trade name. The Zabbar facility is not part of the deal and is to be renamed.

The hospital had been planning to open a new facility in Bulebel to replace the one in Zabbar.

Saint James bought the 80-bed former Capua Hospital in Sliema from AX Holdings in 2002.

Meanwhile, Saint James Hospital International said its structure is run by a separate company from that which manages the Malta operations. It said that although its operations in Libya faced difficult times during the Arab Spring revolution and is facing difficult times today, this had not placed any burden whatsoever on the local operations of the group.

It said its operations in Libya have resumed, although resources have been scaled down for the time being. It was confident that the situation would improve.
