The son of dictator Muammar Gaddafi says he wants to be tried for alleged war crimes in the Netherlands and a trial in Libya would be tantamount to murder.

In a filing by defence lawyers at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, last night, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi said: "There will certainly be no justice in the case if the prosecution is based on evidence from torture.

"I am not afraid to die but if you execute me after such a trial you should just call it murder."

The Hague court and Libyan government are negotiating where Saif's trial will take place for war crimes including murder and torture allegedly committed during the overthrow of his father's regime. He is being held in western Libya.
