Passengers travelling from Mġarr, Gozo, to Ċirkewwa on the 6am ferry were yesterday forced to take a later trip as only one cashier was in charge of the ticket booths, resulting in long queues.

Chaos ensued at the Mġarr terminal, leading to miscommunication between officials, who in-structed passengers to board the ferry even though the side ramp which takes up passengers had already been raised.

The 6am trip is popular with Gozitans travelling to Malta for work. Passengers who tried to board the ferry in time said terminal staff tried in vain to stall the ferry and even let around 20 people across the tunnel leading to the side ramp.

A passenger who was walking through the tunnel said people headed towards the ferry even though the ramp had been raised.

Gozo Channel chairman Joe Cordina said that he was aware of the incident but insisted there were six passengers in the tunnel.

By 6.05am, there were no passengers in the tunnel and at no time were any of the passengers at risk, he said.
