The Sliema Philharmonic Society will be holding a vocal and musical concert for the titular feast of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to commemorate the 100th anniversary since the founding of the Sacred Heart parish in Sliema.

The concert will be performed by the Sliema  band under the baton of Lesley Tabone, together with singer Tezara Camilleri, tenor Mark Mifsud and baritone Ivan Vella, as well as the Sacred Heart parish choir under Fr Paul Galea.

The programme will open with Approaching New Horizons, composed for the band by the late Ronnie Debattista. Camilleri will interpret Beyoncé’s Ave Maria as well as Leonard Cohen’s Halleluiah, arranged for the band by Tabone, while Mifsud shall sing George Bizet’s Agnus Dei. The programme’s highlight will be Ferdinando Camilleri’s Hymn to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where the Sliema Band will be accompanied by Mifsud, Vella and the parish choir.

The concert will close with the popular hymn Viva Dejjem by Domenico Quercetti and Cardenio Botti’s Inno Sliema.

The concert is being organised with the Franciscan friars of Sliema, the Sacred Heart Feast Commission and the Sliema local council.

The concert will take place today at 7.15pm at the Sacred Heart parish church, Sliema.
