Godfrey Camilleri (The Sunday Times, August 23) alleges that lamp posts in Qawra that were installed recently are already rusting. In reality these poles have been installed for around 15 years.

Although the poles have some surface rust they are in no danger as they have sufficient corrosion allowance, Enemalta will be replacing them later if necessary.

This type of superficial corrosion is to be expected near a marine environment. Enemalta Corporation checks such poles continuously and replaces those which may constitute a hazard.

While thanking Mr Camilleri for reporting this matter, I urge other civic-minded citizens to report such matters either to the local council or directly to Enemalta's customer care offices on 8007-2224
