A Russian cargo space ship failed to reach the proper orbit today, shortly after blasting off for the International Space Station (ISS), news agencies quoted space industry sources as saying.

The Progress-M-12M cargo vessel was carrying some 3.5 tonnes of supplies for the international crew on board the space station, the news reports said. There was no immediate information on the nature of the problem.
