Michael Schmacher’s spokesmen have denied claims in the German press that the seven times champion could be about to return to the Ferrari cockpit as the Scuderia prepares a fightback in the championship.

Manager Willi Weber told Sport Bild that such speculation was “absolute rubbish” and spokesman Sabine Kehm reinforced the denial.

"Michael has absolutely no intention of returning to the cockpit," she told Deutsche-Presse-Agentur. "He has definitely not driven this car. He is completely contented with his life at present. He has never regretted his decision to retire and nothing has changed in that."

Williams and Renault

Meanwhile Frank Willaims had denied reports that he could take Renault driver Heikki Kovalainen as a substitute for Alexander Wurz, creating a space in the French car for Nelson Piquet Jr.

Wurz has been outperformed by Nico Rosberg at Williams but Sir Frank praised the Austrian, saying he was a superb team player and a “rock-solid and unbelievably positive stimulus for every member of the team”. Renault have also said they will stand by Kovalainen, who had a poor start of the season but performed well at the Montreal and Indianapolis GPs.

BMW and Red Bull

And to further fuel the rumour mill, reports also have it that BMW and Red Bull could trade Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel. Kubica is a regular BMW driver and Vettel the team’s test driver. Vettel stood in for the injured Kubica last Sunday but he is actually under contract with Red Bull. 'Bild' newspaper said BMW wanted Vettel as one of their regular drivers for next season while Red Bull boss Mateschitz is said to be impressed by Kubica.
