Heritage Malta is celebrating the feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck by opening the protected Roman remains and tiny chapel of San Pawl Milqi.

San Pawl Milqi is the site of a Roman villa in Burmarrad which, according to tradition, is where St Paul received Maltese hospitality following his shipwreck in Malta in AD 60.

The chapel, which is still standing, dates back to 1616.

Archaeological excavations carried out in the 1960s uncovered a large agricultural area dating from the second and third century BC.

Tours will be held at the site on Thursday, which is the feast of the saint, every 45 minutes.

Tickets for the event cost €4, students and senior members will be charged €2, while Heritage Malta members and children under 12 will be admitted for free.
