The Retail Price Index rose by 0.17 per cent to 108.26 last month, the National Statistics Office said.
It said this primarily reflected an increase of 4.99 per cent in the clothing and footwear index, mainly due to seasonally higher prices of garments.
An upward movement in the prices of some newspapers brought about a rise of 0.75 per cent in the recreation and culture index and higher prices of vegetables underlay an increase of 0.57 per cent in the food index.
There was a decrease of 1.68 per cent in the transport and communication index as a result of lower-priced airfares.
In September the 12-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 2.01 per cent, whereas the annual rate stood at 0.74 per cent.
