Andy Roxburgh, UEFA's technical director, delivered a very interesting talk to local coaches at the Centenary Hall in midweek. The lecture was part of the Malta FA activities commemorating the 100th year of the National League and 50 years of the association's full membership in FIFA and UEFA.

Roxburgh focused on key coaching topics such as knowledge of the game, reading the game and anticipating the course of the match. He also stressed the importance a coach has to devote to interpreting, understanding and analysing a match.

Counter-attacking football prompted a discussion among the participants as Roxburgh spoke about the importance of a quick transition from defence to attack and vice-versa.

Basing his presentation on six key aspects - preparation, observation, anticipation, interpretation, communication and evaluation, Roxburgh also brought a touch of humour to his explanations.

At the end of the session, Roxburgh fielded several questions by the coaches.
