Ghajnsielem 4
Zebbug Rovers 4

For the third time in as many matches, leaders Zebbug Rovers only succeeded in bagging one point after their clash against Ghajnsielem ended 4-4. Nearest rivals Nadur are now only two points adrift in the standings.

The Rovers enjoyed the better start, opening the scoring after five minutes from a Mahjoub Touali shot. The response from Ghajnsielem was immediate and resulted in an equaliser six minutes later courtesy of Brian Meilak.

Leandro Quinhione's flick from close range put Zebbug again in the lead. The score should have become 2-2 just before the break had it not been for the crossbar which came to Zebbug's rescue.

Eight minutes after the change of ends, the Blacks did manage to grab their second equaliser from a Dominique Mbueko free-kick.

In a fast-moving game, Quinhione's shot was stopped by the Ghajnsielem woodwork.

It did not take Zebbug long to restore their lead as 20 minutes from the end, Quinhione fired home only for the Blacks to cancel that lead once again, this time thanks to a Kalenga Ndayi goal.

Ghajnsielem's refusal to throw in the towel unsettled Zebbug who fell behind for the first time in the match when Jeremy Camilleri scored for the Blacks seven minutes from time.

However, four minutes later Zebbug obtained a deserved equaliser from a penalty goal by Touali.

Kercem Ajax 0
Xewkija Tigers 1

Xewkija Tigers made up for the heavy defeat they suffered at the hands of Nadur Youngsters when doing the double on Kercem Ajax for their second victory in the championship.

Xewkija saw more of the ball during the first period and could have opened the score early on through Rais, Christian Bugeja and Mark Camilleri.

The second half continued in as much the same vein as the first with Kercem forced to contend with the continuous pressure created by their opponents.

Xewkija hit the goal that mattered in the 64th minute when Rais released Jeffrey Farrugia with a perfect pass and the latter kept his cool to slot the ball home.

Farrugia could have made sure of the points minutes later but shot wide from an ideal scoring position.

Kercem applied some pressure on the Xewkija rearguard in the final stages but the Tigers, with goalkeeper Agius in defiant mood, held tight to return home with the points in their bags.
