Rotary Club Malta recently held its hands-on day at Dar il-Kaptan, the respite home in Mtarfa, with 70 people rolling up their sleeves to update and maintain its property and gardens.

Among other things, the volunteers painted the house, tended to the garden, sanded and varnished the garden furniture, waterproofed the roof, painted the rooms and corridors and repaired the fly nets.

The Governor of Rotary District 2110 - Sicily and Malta - Francesco Arezzo and his wife Anna, were among those helping out.

While the work was being carried out, the services team prepared a barbecue meal for all present.

Rotarian Lennard Pal said: "The most interesting thing was the impact that you can make. A complete makeover was effected in just one day."

Dar il-Kaptan is committed to providing a professional respite service for people with disabilities and their families. They aim to ensure that families receive the adequate support and the necessary respite, so people with disabilities can remain in their family home and continue to live in their community.
