Rosette Thake, a mother of three and a leader in the cooperatives sector, is being mentioned as the front runner in the race to become the next PN general secretary.

Party sources said Simon Busuttil has indicated within the party that the next general secretary should not be a member of the parliamentary group.

Ms Thake would only say that she had submitted her nomination for the election
of the executive council members, which will be held later this month. The general secretary will be elected from among those in the council.

Upon his election as leader two years ago, Dr Busuttil appointed Ms Thake to the board of AŻAD, the PN’s think tank, and last October she presided the party’s first convention.

A graduate in communication and social studies, Ms Thake is reading for a master’s in public policy leadership at the University of Malta. For the past 10 years, she has been a managing partner of a cooperative involved in early childhood education, managing various private childcare centres. She was also part of the commission that reviewed and reported on the PN’s massive electoral defeat in 2013.
