Ronaldo marked his return to the World Cup after a series of career-threatening injuries yesterday with Brazil's opening goal as they came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win over Turkey. Ronaldo was on the pitch for just over 70 minutes - which he says is still the maximum he can manage at international level - during which time he was his team's most dangerous player as he posed a constant threat up front in their opening Group C match.

His 50th minute equaliser was his first goal in a competitive international since the 1999 Copa America final against Uruguay and his first at the World Cup since the 1998 semi-final.

The Phenomenon said he still lacks pace and fitness.

"I gave my all until I couldn't do any more," he said. "Seventy minutes is still the most I can manage."
