A man who stands accused of stalking the star witness in the police case against former police inspector David Gatt has been remanded in custody after being accused of stealing a computer from the Radisson Blue Resort in St Julians.

Romeo Bone had been on bail after having been accused in February of stalking PC99 Mario Portelli, who, the police claim, lifted the lid on the alleged criminal activities of Dr Gatt.

Mr Bone, a convicted criminal, was accused today of stealing the computer on July 4, committing the crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term, and relapsing.

In giving his particulars to the Court registrar, Mr Bone said he currently works at a car wash and is also training to work for Arriva.

He pleaded not guilty to the new charges.

Mr Bone's lawyer, Dr Joe Giglio, argued during pleas for bail that his client had first to be found guilty of stealing the computer before being accused of violating the conditions of previous court sentences.

Poice Inspector Anthony Portelli said the court was dealing with a repeat offender with a long criminal record. He knew exactly what he was doing and was not a first time offender.

Magistrate Clare Stafrace Zammit remanded him in custody.

(Arriva contacted timesofmalta.com to say that they have no record of any Romeo Bone working for them or under training.)
