Two Romanians who last week denied stealing a wallet containing €600 during pick-pocketing at Burger King in Valletta today changed their plea to guilty and were handed a suspended jail term.

Susanna Vladescu, 60 and Theodor Dumitrescu, 42, who had been remanded in custody after having been arraigned last week, told the court today that although CCTV showed them in the queue but not actually robbing anyone, they were pleading guilty so that they could return to their country.

Magistrate Anthony Vella condemned them to a one-year jail term suspended for two years.

In a separate case,Stephen Lawrence Hutchins, 49 from County Durham in the UK was conditionally discharged for a year today after he admitted in court to being in possession of a single ecstasy pill at a party near Rabat yesterday.
