Ever since St Aloysius College opened its doors to its students a century ago, it has been committed to instilling leadership skills in boys - some of whom have grown up to be among Malta's most influential figures.

President Eddie Fenech Adami, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat, Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano and former Presidents of the Republic Ċensu Tabone and Guido de Marco were among the past students who yesterday turned up at their old school to celebrate the college's centenary anniversary.

"It is an honour for the college that these past students have contributed to the leadership of Malta. They also serve as an example to present students," said Fr Patrick Magro, who has been college rector for the past six years.

Ever since St Aloysius took in its first students, on October 7, 1907, the Jesuit-run school was committed to teaching students how to be leaders in their own environments.

"Another of our mottos is to bring up men and women who are of service to others rather than keep their skills and talents to themselves," explained Fr Magro.

He added that reunions were organised allowing ex-students to reunite with their old classmates every five years. This year a special event was being organised to mark the passing of 100 years since the college opened.

Past students in prominent positions were invited and presented with a commemorative stamp.
