Rockestra, the charity concert which attracted thousands of people when it was first held last year, will return on September 11.

It will again be held at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta' Qali, in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the concert, President George Abela said the organisers were this year focusing on repeating last year's atmosphere of interaction between the singers, musicians and the audience.

The concert will feature well known local rock, pop and classical singers, although the line-up will be announced closer to the date. Also taking part will be foreign acrobats in a synchronised display.

The President said the concert's date coincided with a time when the number of musical activities began to die down.

He urged those interested in going to book early online or at the palaces in Valletta or San Anton. Last year's concert was sold out.

Prices are €10 for the standing area and €15 for the seated.

Mario De Marco, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Culture, commended the concert as another activity related to art and culture, on which every euro spent was an investment.

"We have to move music close to the people because it is not always a case where the people move closer to music. This concert is another form of that outreach," he said.

During the press conference, it was also announced that the Finance Ministry had donated €15,000 from the Good Causes Fund to aid in the concert's organisation.
