Annual alternative festival Rock the South this year celebrates its fifth anniversary with an eclectic line-up to be held over three days. With two music stages, over 30 bands and artists and a Silent Disco area, the festival promises to be yet another highlight on the live music calendar.

This year’s line-up includes six foreign bands – hardcore outfits Angler and On a Ship, instrumental rock duo Sdang, pop rock band Plan de Fuga and Dorian Gray, all from Italy and cult band My Drug Hell from the UK.

The band Dorian Gray are known for integrating visuals and music in their performances and will be accompanied by an artist who will be doing illustrations that will be projected on a big screen during their show.

The event kicks off on Friday afternoon with the first stage dedicated to two-piece bands, which will include Paragon, Beesqueeze, Krishna and Sdang. The second stage will be dedicated to metal, hardcore and punk, kicking off with On a Ship, Bila, Angler and Club Murder.

Saturday sees the first stage focusing on indie pop rock bands Life Long War, Canvas Wall, Plan De Fuga and nosnow/noalps. The second stage we will feature Massacre House Party, The Voyage, Dorian Gray and Brodu.

On Sunday performances start earlier with a hip hop branch kicking off at 1pm and including Umannimali, Sempliċiment tat-Triq and Tydal & The Acquaintances, followed by the afternoon shows by Eversity, Pyramid Suns, Waterwings, Falcon flying circus and Dance Apollo.

The evening will see the first stage showcasing female-fronted bands Jack’s Fusion, Cryptic Street, Lucy’s Last and Fuzzhoneys, while the second stage will offer a mix-up of jazz fusion and indie rock with The Ranch, Vertigo Dingo, The Velts and My Drug Hell from the UK.

Closing acts are KNTRL on Friday, Crux on Saturday and nBome on Sunday.

The Silent Disco runs on Friday and Saturday from 10pm and Sunday from 5pm with the line-up featuring Critical Mass, Trackage Scheme, Bass Culture, Freedom Fighters, Sick of Ants and the Rock the South crew. More names will follow.

Rock the South takes place at Zion Reggae Bar, Marsascala on April 15, 16 and 17. The festival is endorsed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation. Tickets will be released shortly on www.trackagescheme.com.
