A hold-up in broad daylight on an 85-year-old man in Cospicua last week was caught on CCTV, a police inspector told the Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Police Inspector Jeffrey Cilia told Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani that Bernard Muscat, known as Benny, was caught on CCTV robbing and beating up the elderly man as he was walking in Cospicua at about midday on July 14.

The officer said the footage showed Mr Muscat repeatedly kicking the victim.

The 44-year-old, from Cospicua, stands charged with stealing up to €2,329 in cash, illegally arresting the man, slightly injuring him, handling stolen items, committing a crime during the operative term of a suspended jail term, relapsing and breaching the conditions of a previous release.

He was remanded in custody.

Police Inspectors Jeffrey Cilia and Fabian Fleri prosecuted.

Lawyer Renzo Posella Flores appeared for the accused.
