A road toll for use of private transport during peak hours should be introduced while making public transport free at those hours, government MP Godfrey Farrugia said today

Speaking in Parliament during the Budget debate on transport, Dr Farrugia said public transport should be made more efficient through encouraging people to use it while discouraging them from using their own transport.

He said a road toll, even if very low, would discourage people from using their own car at busy times. This, he said, could be one of the solutions to the traffic problem.

He also said that all government departments should lead by example and organise transport for workers, as used to be done in the past.
