The Malta Cycling Federation Road Race championship reached a peak last Sunday with the third and last race of the season at the Tal-Maqluba circuit, limits of Qrendi.

The Cyclist Cycling Team had another outstanding day of racing as their riders took the major honours in both men’s and women’s categories.

In the elite race for men, 2015 champion Maurice Formosa crossed the finish line first in 2:36:52 in front of Pierre Borg, of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC (2:36:52), and Mark Bonnici of Agones Sfc (2:36:53).

For Borg and Bonnici, this was their first podium of the season.

Formosa’s The Cyclist club mate, Stephanie Alden, completed her seven laps in 1:51:43 to win the women’s race.

She was followed home by team-mate Hannah Pace (1:51:51) and Marion Pullicino, of Agones Sfc, in 1:52:03.

For the first time this season, the race for juniors saw a member of the Gozo Greyhounds club on the highest step of the podium as Brandon Sultana rode to victory in 2:04:55.

Michael Camilleri, of Team Greens, won the Masters 40+ race and the top rider in the Masters 50+ was Steve Bell, of the Cyclist. Mosta CC’s Emmanuel Camilleri took the honours in the 60+ race.

For Bell and Emmanuel Camilleri it was their third win of the season.

At the end of the race, medals were distributed to the winners in the various categories.

The next fixture on the federation’s calendar will be the remaining Time Trial championship race at il-Miżieb on July 10.
