Looking at the front-page picture (‘Smoke on the water’, April 3) about the fire that engulfed a yacht and from what I have heard here in Kalkara, may I, through these columns, say I feel the staff at the Kalkara boat yard deserve some sort of recognition for their bravery.

In less than five minutes, they untied the stricken boat from its pontoon mooring and towed it, using a dinghy, out of harm’s way into Kalkara Creek at considerable risk to themselves. One has only to look at the photograph on the front page to see how close they were to the inferno with little or no protection for themselves.
