I was delighted to read that another group has become involved with providing riding for the disabled. It is indeed a wonderful benefit for all sorts of disabled children and adults, and is recognised as such worldwide. The more opportunities available the better.

The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) was founded in 1965 and was first established in Malta in 1980. As well as riding for any suitable disabled child, it provides free riding for children from special schools, and I would urge their parents to ask the schools to take advantage of this facility. There has been much less participation in recent years. The schools do not seem to understand the great benefits.

One of my happiest memories is of Joe, who didn't speak a word, laughing and smiling on his dearly loved pony, Rosie, especially when she sneezed! Unfortunately, when he left school his weekly treat came to an end.

May many more disabled people discover the joys of riding.
