Artist and deejay Richie Hawtin is returning to Malta after a seven-year absence, performing at Bay Arena tomorrow.

Hawtin has relentlessly proved himself to be a true innovator with his techno and minimal imprints Plus 8 and Minus. He gave techno a unique face with a series of four ruthlessly-minimal albums, while breathtaking festival live sets at Glastonbury and Tribal Gathering helped invent stadium techno.

His Decks, EFX & 909 album released on NovaMute in 1999 expanded the concept of a DJ mix album.

Although he’s technically a Canadian, Hawtin is associated with putting his beloved Detroit on the dance music map.

Along with fellow Detroit pioneer Carl Craig, he helped break the second wave of Detroit techno.

From north of Detroit in Windsor, Ontario, Hawtin has been a deejay, producer, record label owner, and a flag-waver for the underground Detroit scene which is only now getting the respect it deserves in the US.

He is also considered a star in Europe, where he has enjoyed success with his project Plastikman. Spastik, Minus Orange, Panickattack, The Tunnel, Plasticine and Ping Pong are some of his well-known tunes.
