I attended the Ricchi e Poveri concert at the Hilton. I must say that I was sceptical at first but my doubts were soon shed. Apart from the fact that I still remembered most of their songs from when my mother would play them when I was young, their energy was so incredibly stimulating and infectious that one could not help but to join in, sing, dance, clap and yell!

The hall was not at all packed (it was not even full quite honestly)… and that saddened me a bit as I kept thinking that a lot of people must have been sceptical like I was… a lot of people must have thought this group was past its prime. While I must admit that this conclusion might be right, in the sense that it is not producing new material and it is not at the forefront of today’s music scene, the emotions that it still conveys are priceless and, like many forefathers of today’s music scene, the group’s impact is indelible.

My congratulations extend to Jean Claude Micallef, possibly Malta’s best presenter. Humorous to the right point, stage dominating, on the ball; even if he was sick with the flu!

My congratulations also extend to Thea Garrett and Aldo Busuttil. They made us proud of being Maltese! They are two proper stars to whom I wish all the best of luck and all the success they deserve. They may yet get on the international music scene and when that day comes, we’ll know they deserve all of the glitz and the magic it involves!

Congratulations and well done also to GNG and the sponsors who made it all possible.
