KSU, the University Students' Council, has welcomed changes in the procedure for the revision of papers, saying they instilled greater transparency.

Among other things, the changes mean that a mark now cannot change from a pass to a fail. Under the previous system, many students were discouraged from seeking a revision because they feared that their marks would actually go down, the council said. Through these amendments, marks obtained by candidates as a result of a clerical error will only be decreased as long as such a decrease does not mean the student will have his mark shifted from a pass mark to a failing mark.

Roberta Rizzo, Senate representative on the Sub Committee for Revision of papers, and Education Co-ordinator within KSU said the new amendments put greater emphasis on the process being seen to be correct and appropriate, a measure which should serve to help decrease the number of students having to seek to the Revision of Paper mechanism.

The amendments were approved during the Senate meeting and have come into force.

The amendments were also welcomed by Pulse.
