A full review of patient and staff security systems at Mount Carmel Hospital has been ordered by Health Minister Chris Fearne in light of recent incidents.

The review, the government said, would be led by the head of security at Mater Dei Frank Rodgers.

He would be reporting back within two weeks.

A 59-year-old British man escaped from the hospital last month. He jumped on one of the trees and ran away before hospital staff could stop him.

Another three patients escaped in April.
