A revamped version of the Local Enforcement System online portal www.les.gov.mt was launched this morning by Local Government Minister Owen Bonnici.

The new portal, which will be in operation by July 15, will offer an more efficient and faster service.

People who choose to register for the service wilol be able to receive an electronic copy of a fine 12 hours after this is issued. They can also chose to be reminded by text message, e-mail or both of any pending fines, a tribunal sitting, dates of tribunal decisions and before any late fees kick in.

The website will also offer companies with a fleet of cars the possibility to appoint an account holder for better control.

The current site can only be used for the payment of fines or to lodge petitions. This will still be possible with the new portal. However, current users will have to re-register.

Summons will still be mailed to those who prefer not to register for the system.
