The Retail Price Index went up by 0.37 per cent last month over March, the National Statistics Office said.

The increase was mainly the result of an increase of 2.77 percent in the Clothing and Footwear Index, and an increase of 1.22 percent in the Housing Index.

There were also higher prices for air transport services and fuels, fuels and tuition fees.

The Other Goods and Services Index went up by 0.29 percent, mainly on account of price increases in pet food and pet-related services. The Household Equipment and House Maintenance Cost Index increased by 0.26 percent.

The NSO said there was an decrease of 0.62 percent in the Food Index, mainly on account of lower vegetables prices.

In April the 12-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 2.25 per cent, whereas the annual rate stood at 3.56 percent, down from 3.89 percent in March. This was the first drop, albeit slight, since May 2007.
