This year the Archconfraternity of the Holy Crucifix established at the Church of Our Lady of Jesus (Ta' Giesu) in Valletta continued with the restoration of the set of statues which are carried in the Good Friday procession. During the past months, besides the study of the statues' textures and other relevant photographic documentation, the statues of the Ecce Uomo and the Fall under the Cross were restored. As in the past year the work was entrusted to Rev. Fr Charles Vella who is now known not only for the restoration of Our Lady of Sorrows but also for other artistic works - the Neapolitan crib and other wax statues.

This year while the restoration on the Ecce Uomo was taking place a number of art experts decided that the said statue was the work of Frate Umile di Pietralcina - the same sculptor that sculptured the Miraculous Crucifix venerated at the same church.

The Archconfraternity has no fixed income and depends on the collections it makes during the processions of Our Lady of Sorrows, Good Friday and the special collection box fixed near the altar of the Miraculous Crucifix venerated at the same church.

During the past year the Archconfraternity already received some donations, but these are not enough. It would be of tremendous help if people and organisations, especially those of Valletta, could send a donation to the Archconfraternity so that the remaining statues will be restored to their former glory. One must remember that most of these are the works of the best Maltese statue makers Saverio Laferla, P. P. Azzopardi, Carlo Darmanin and other unknown artists.
