I recently received my utility bill and to my surprise, at the bottom of the table showing my consumption in detail, there was the amount of CO2 generated by my electricity consumption.

It was an eye-opener and made me aware of the extent of my carbon footprint on the environment.

Somehow, I tried to link it to the current controversy on the contract of the extension of the Delimara power station, and came up with various questions on our shared responsibility to the global environment.

Where will the power station's toxic waste be dumped, even if, as the minister stated, it is sealed in special containers? Will it be Denmark or any other EU country, or a Third World country?

If a Third World country is generously going to receive our weekly consignments of toxic waste, have we any further need for World Mission Day to encourage us to do something different to help these underdeveloped countries?

Why are the environmental groups, including the Church's environmental commission, silent on where this toxic waste is going to be dumped?
