Marsascala residents yesterday complained about the bad odours and the large quantity of dust that have come out of the Sant'Antnin recycling plant.

They want to persuade the authorities to take the health of residents into account before extending the plant further.

The committee against the proposed recycling plant said no studies were carried out to assess the environmental health or socio-economic implications of such a project.

A number of regulations had been broken and some procedures overlooked by the authorities, the committee claimed.

They said WasteServ had promised that the plant would be state-of-the-art, but this could only be so if it meant the elimination of all inconveniences and negative impacts the residents have been facing since 1993.
