The Planning Board is considering a ‘masterplan’ application for an extensive residential and touristic development in Qawra.
The project, which has been recommended for approval, occupies a site between Triq in-Nakkri and Triq it-Tamar, a total area of around 6,940 square metres.
The developers are seeking permission, in the first phase of the project, for the construction of a residential development over five floors plus penthouse, as well as parking at basement level. The second phase would see the commitment of part of the site for tourism-related commercial use.
A separate permit application for the same site, which is still at an early stage, envisions the construction of a 257-room hotel, ground floor facilities and conference rooms, eight overlying floors and penthouse-level hotel rooms and rooftop pools.
The board deferred its decision by one week to allow the developers to clarify issues relating to the ownership of the site, as well as the possibility of a design conflict with the separate permit application for the hotel.
