A diver was rescued after finding himself in distress while diving at Marsalforn.

The diver, a 66-year-old man from Zebbug, Gozo, was overcome by a wave which pulled him into a cave, where he struck his head, and pulled off his goggles and flippers.

This happened at around 12.30pm at Ras ir-Reqqa, between Wied il-Ghasri and Xwejni, in an area which is very popular with divers..

He was assisted by his diving buddy.

The diver was brought ashore by members of the Civil Protection Department and the Armed Forces of Malta and taken to Gozo General Hospital.

He refused medical assistance.
