Between 2004 and 2008 the police received 196 reports on soliciting for purposes of prostitution. There were 16 reports in 2004, 46 in 2005, 49 in 2006, 58 in 2007 and 27 in 2008.

Answering a parliamentary question by Nationalist Whip David Agius, Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici said that over the same period the police had instituted court proceedings on 1,801 cases of soliciting.

By far most cases were in the Msida-Gżira-Ta' Xbiex area, with 158 in 2004, 262 in 2005, 503 in 2006, 155 in 2007 and 37 in 2008. In Marsa there had respectively been 86, 117, 227, 82 and 165 cases. Floriana had three cases in 2004, St Paul's Bay one case also in 2004, and Valletta three cases in 2004 and two in 2008.
